Logo No No

I’m a big “logo fan” and happen to be particularly fond of the Nike swoosh. (http://goodlogo.com/extended.info/nike-logo-2376)
It’s simple, timeless, recognizable, elegant and looks great on a pair of shoes!

When creating your logo, these are definitely some of the attributes you want your design to possess.   It sounds easy enough but a lot of businesses have logos that don’t meet these basic qualifications. Their logo is actually what we would call a “Logo No No!”   So, to make sure that you don’t go skipping down the “No No” path, here are a few tips.

  • Hire a graphic designer to create your logo.  Avoid using a friend or someone that doesn’t have adequate experience.  Remember that your logo represents you and your business.
  • Resist the urge to add too many elements in your logo.  Just keep it clean and simple.
  • Try not to use more than two typefaces.  This ensures that your design communicates a clear concise message and doesn’t look too cluttered.
  • Remember that your design should be just as effective in black and white as it is in color.

Introducing Hill Street Media

thumbnailWhen we started our company in 2005 everything was moving at a rapid pace. We had new clients and projects with deadlines that were right around the corner. So, we chose a name, FranMarketing, right on the spot and forged ahead. But after a while our name became somewhat of a misnomer. People thought that we only offered marketing services. They didn’t realize that we offered advertising, audio and video services in addition to marketing and branding support (see our About Us page for more information).

hill_st_logo_JPGSo we decided to change the name of the company, but this time we had a totally different approach. We took our time (not the rapid fire decision we made before) and established a focus group to aid us in the decision. Out of all the names we came up with, Hill Street Media stuck. Hill Street was the street that I grew up on. It’s where I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in Journalism and Communications. Hill Street Media felt right, our team liked it and so did our focus group (we love them for allowing us to bounce so many ideas off of them).

HillSt Media front FINALWith the name in place we worked with our talented graphic designers to create a logo, had our business cards designed (we used front and back to communicate more information) and then sat down with our web design team. And here we are! Hill Street Media formerly FranMarketing, putting your ideas in motion, offering the same services and the same commitment to excellence. Let us know if you have an upcoming project.
